The dream came up just short for the Turkey Valley baseball team as the Trojans ran into a buzzsaw of Class 1A No. 4 Don Bosco Tuesday night in the substate final at Starmont High School.
The Dons scored in four of the six innings to get the 10-0 win in six frames.
Turkey Valley ends the season with a 19-18 overall record.
The Dons (27-6) advance to the Class 1A state tournament, where they will be the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed Van Buren (24-5) in the first round Saturday, July 27, at 8 p.m. in Des Moines.
What happened Tuesday
The Trojans went down 1-2-3 in the first inning Tuesday night. Don Bosco took advantage of the Trojans in their half of the inning, with a walk, a bunt single, an RBI sacrifice and a two-run home run by Jake Hogan. When TV finally got the third out, it was 3-0 Don Bosco.
Turkey Valley looked to get something going in the top of the second when lead-off hitter Dalton Hackman reached on a single. He stole second, then advanced to third on a ground out. With Kyle Reicks at bat, the ball got past the catcher, with D. Hackman attempting to steal home. However, the Dons recovered quickly, getting Hackman at the plate.
