The South Winn baseball team upped its record to 18-0, 9-0 in the Upper Iowa Conference, Monday by taking care of business in Monona.
The Warriors swept MFL (2-9, 2-7 UIC) 16-0 and 14-1.
In the first game, the Warriors put up eight runs in the top of the first inning. The game was sealed in the fourth when they added five more.
The Warriors had a season-high 18 hits, with everyone in the starting line-up producing at least one. Jared Schroeder was 3-for-4 with four runs, a double and two RBI. Jordan Rommes was 2-for-3 with two runs, a home run and four RBI. Ryan Hageman had two hits and drove in four. Trevor Schweinefus was 3-for-3 while Tanner Kuennen was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. It was his first high school home run.
T. Schweinefus moved to 5-0 with the complete-game two-hitter.
“We hit the ball very well in this game. Anytime everyone in your starting lineup has at least one hit, the result is typically going to be in your favor,” said Coach Ben Obermann. “Right now, we are clicking offensively, and it has been fun to watch. The guys have had good at-bats and approaches, and that’s a tribute to their preparation before games and in practices. Hopefully we can keep this offensive surge going for the rest of the season. In addition to our offense, we played a very clean game defensively. Trevor did not walk anybody, and we did not commit an error. We were a complete team in all three phases of the first game of the doubleheader.”
