It was a busy two days for the Decorah girls tennis team as the Vikings traveled to Dubuque Friday and participated in the first ever conference meet Saturday.

Tough night
Friday the Vikings traveled to Dubuque Senior, falling to the Rams 9-0.
“Dodging intermittent raindrops, the girls found themselves facing an opponent bent on shedding even more rain on their parade. We had not practiced outdoors all week due to the continual wet conditions. Senior is a good team, but we made them look like the top 2-A team in the state. It did not hurt that Senior had been able to play a varsity match the night before, but you can always find excuses. It was an eye opener for many of the girls and for their coach as well,” said Coach Larry Berland.
“There were a few positives that came from the match. One positive was that two underclassmen were able to play due to a scheduling conflict for one of the top six players. Ashlynn Franzen played like a sophomore playing in her first varsity match for the first eight games she played but then settled down and won three of her last five games at six singles."
