The season began Tuesday night for the Decorah wrestling team as the Vikings hosted Union and Vinton-Shellsburg in a triangular.

The Vikes knocked off Vinton-Shellsburg 73-3 and fell to Union 58-12.

Carter Hubka (113) and Class 3A No. 8 Kellan O'Shea (132) were the only Vikings to win both their matches. Hubka pinned Union's Joe Hellman in 1:35 and grabbed a close 4-3 decision over Max Wehage of Vinton-Shellsburg. O'Shea began his run to a third state appearance by pinning Brock Barnhart of Union in 1:53 and collecting an 11-3 major decision over Nick Hyland of Vinton-Shellsburg.

Also with pins Tuesday were Joe Knoke, Mathew Fullhart, Kennedy Folkedahl, Alec Fjelstul, Jared Adam, Daniel Ott, Riley Rue and Carter Zidlicky.
