Luther College head baseball coach Alex Smith has resigned, as announced today by Luther College Direct of Athletics Joe Thompson.
Smith, who has served as head coach for the past three years, has accepted a position as a Luther College admission counselor but will remain as the head recruiting coordinator for the baseball program until a new coach is hired. Smith, a 2003 graduate and multiple letter winner for the Norse, has been involved with the baseball program for the past 15 years.
“This was basically a family decision,” stated Smith. “With two small children and having already worked in admissions at Luther for five years prior to taking over as head coach, this opportunity would allow me to continue to recruit students to Luther College and be able to spend more time with my family, since my recruiting area will be parts of Minnesota, Iowa and Colorado. I also look forward to a continued relationship with Luther baseball.”
“We appreciate the efforts Alex has provided to the baseball program,” said Thompson. “I know this was a difficult decision for him because he loves coaching and Luther baseball.”
