A big second half by the South Winn boys basketball team (6-5, 5-3 UIC) outdid Turkey Valley (1-10, 1-9 UIC) Tuesday night in Calmar, as the Warriors went on to win 53-34.

The Warriors posted 33 points in the second half while holding Turkey Valley to 18.

Sophomore power

South Winn scored its first basket just 10 seconds into the game on an Isaac Taylor two. The Trojans responded in a big way, with sophomore Justin Hackman posting seven straight points to give the Trojans a 7-2 lead with 3:51 remaining. However, the Warriors came back, with Adam Lensing putting up eight points to end the quarter with a 10-7 lead.

South Winn's Jordan Rommes got the first score of the second frame. Trojan Jacob Hackman ended the Warriors streak with a three to make it 12-9. Rommes hit back-to-back shots before Riley Buchheit scored and Ryan Busta hit a free throw to make it 16-12 Warriors. SW's Eric Albertson and Ju. Hackman traded shots. Lensing scored with 50 seconds remaining before J. Hackman closed out the half to make it 20-16 SW.
