With a district title and No. 1 seed in the playoffs on the line, the Class 1A No. 8 South Winn football team (8-1, 6-0) did all it needed and more Friday night on the road, drubbing Jesup (1-8, 1-5) 44-6.

With the win, the Warriors won the district title outright and earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

South Winn will host Hudson (5-4) in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Calmar beginning at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to face the winner of No. 5 Aplington-Parkersburg (7-2) and No. 13 Saint Ansgar (7-2) Monday, Oct. 29.

"I'm proud of our kids being able to win a very tough district," said Head Coach Jason Ohrt. "This was our third district title in the last four years but the only one we were able to win outright."

Making it count

Knowing the Warriors needed a win, they came out charged Friday night. The first punch was thrown by Colton Hageman as the senior ran 71 yards down the field for the touchdown. The two-point run failed, making it 6-0. They weren't done. Later in the frame, quarterback Garrett Bohach rushed 9 yards for the score. C. Hageman took the ball on the two-point play to make it 14-0 after the first 12 minutes.
