In the final regular season game of the year, the South Winn softball team (11-20, 8-10 UIC) lost a heartbreaker at Crestwood (23-10) Friday night, 3-4.

The Warriors broke through first, securing a run in the top of the third. The Cadets responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two. It wasn't until the sixth inning when another run scored. In the top half of the inning, South Winn scored two runs to lead 3-2. That lead held until the last half inning, when the Cadets scored two runs to get the win.

South Winn had eight hits. Jenn Panos had two of the hits, including a double. Morgan Bohr had two singles and drove in a run. Brittany Shindelar powered a solo home run. Bayley Monroe and Becca Franzen both had one hit and scored a run. Bohr, Hageman and Shindelar each had an RBI.

Monroe was the losing pitcher. She gave up 11 hits and four runs.



The Warriors start their march to the state tournament today, Tuesday, July 9, at home against Wapsie Valley at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to face Sumner-Fred Friday, July 12, at Sumner at 7 p.m.
