Andrew Peter and Nick Nelson each fired a one-under par 69, before Peter won medalist honors in a one-hole playoff with a birdie on the first hole. Drew Olinger (75), Maynard Newhouse (78), Sam Lewey (78) and Gunnar Rollins (78) also toured the course for Decorah.
"It was fun to watch Andrew and Nick play each other for the first and second medals. With two scores under par and four others in the seventies, we were very competitive and had an outstanding day," said Decorah Coach Rich Gaard.
The Class 3A state meet is Friday and Saturday, May 28-29, at the Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes. Friday's tee time is at noon followed by an 8 a.m. start Saturday. The Vikes are coming off a fifth place finish in 2009 where Peter rallied on the final 18 holes with a tournament best round of 71 to capture medalist honors. Nelson finished in a three-way tie for 13th at last year's meet.
