The Vikes have advanced to the regional final after defeating Dubuque Wahlert 2-1 Tuesday night in Dubuque at the reginal semifinals.
The Vikes next face Class 2A No. 2 Pleasant Valley (13-5) Monday, June 3, at Linn-Mar High School at 5 p.m. The winner moves on to the state tournament, which runs June 6-8 in Des Moines.
It was a battle from the beginning. The Vikes scored first, with Abby Arend putting the ball in the net. However, Wahlert didn't stay down for long, tying the game. Midway through the second half, Ab. Arend took the pass form Jennison Jenkins, giving Decorah the lead back.
"Usually I play kind of conservative and defensive minded, but the girls were on a tear and refused to stop attempting to score. Normally I say get back and defend, but they were so dynamic and so intense they just played hard and I went with it," said Coach Julie Shockey.
"It was a total team effort. For the last couple of games, we've finally played a full 80 minutes. We've played from start to finish with very little lapse in intensity. Defensively we were solid, and offensively we were dangerous."
