It was a good way to start the season for the South Winn girls basketball team (1-0, 1-0 UIC) as the Warriors defeated Postville (0-1, 0-1 UIC) 45-38 Tuesday night in Calmar.

The Warriors struggled to find their shooting touch in the first quarter, with both teams battling back and forth. At the halftime break, they'd pulled ahead by two, 17-15. Fans who stayed for the second half were highly entertained as the Warriors held on for the victory by outscoring the Pirates 28-23 in the second half.

It was a balanced scoring night for the home team.
