For the 11th time in his 50 year career at Decorah High School, Head Baseball Coach Dennis Olejniczak has been named the Class 3A northeast district coach of the year by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA).
The 46th annual IHSBCA awards banquet was Saturday, Jan. 18.
In addition, Olejniczak was honored for 50 years of service.
Other Class 3A coaches honored were Andy Osborne, Sioux City Heelan, west district; Seth Thompson, Clear Lake, central district; and Billy Argo, Davenport Assumption, southeast district. Thompson was named the state winner.
Olejniczak is second in the nation in wins with a 1,319-499 career mark. He trails only Kee High's Gene Schultz. Last year, Olejniczak led the Vikes to a 27-9 record, falling just short of state. He has committed to coaching for a 51st season.
