The Luther College wrestling season came to an end Friday as both Evan Obert (133) and Jayden DeVilbiss (184) were eliminated from the tournament.
Obert, a returning All-American, lost two hard-fought overtime matches after winning his opening match by major decision (9-1) over Marcus Lubner of Concordia (Wis.). In the quaterfinals, Overt was defeated by Jeremy Border of Mount Union 5-3 in sudden victory. One match away from earning All-America honors for a second time, he was defeated by Jacoby Bergeron of Concordia-Moorhead 3-1 in overtime.
Obert ends his junior season with a record of 29-7.
DeVilbiss' season also came to an end Friday in his first match of the consolation round. In his opening match of the tournament, he lost by fall (3:29) to Ryan Dorman of Stevens Institute of Technology. He was eliminated from the tournament by Christian Harrison of Concordia-Moorhead by fall (3:35) in the first round of the consolation bracket.
DeVilbiss, who was making his second consecutive trip to the national finale, completed his junior campaign with a record of 30-12.
