With a bid to the state dual meet on the line, the Class 2A No. 9 Decorah wrestling team came up just short, falling in the final round to Class 2A No. 1 West Delaware 55-19 Tuesday night in Manchester.

Earlier in the night the Vikes defeated Class 2A No. 16 Crestwood 36-37.

In the first round of regional dual action, the Vikes came out swinging, just getting past their Northeast Iowa Conference foe. At 145 pounds, Cody Ritner continued his hot wrestling by pinning Dakota Rasmusson in 2:38. At 152 pounds, Class 2A No. 9 Hans Holkesvik threw Reid Ellingson in 1:03. Nathan Suhr (160) picked up bonus points by getting a 13-3 major decision over Brady Bergan. In just 53 seconds, Peter Kephart (170) pinned Levin Henry. It was two close decisions in a row at 182 and 195 pounds. Tyler Hovey (182) won 5-1 over Garrett Praska while McKinleigh McCabe won 3-2 over Brandon Slifka. Andy Hovden, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, threw Josh Larson in 26 seconds while Class 2A No. 4 Austin Ashbacher won 4-3 over Jade Miller.

In the second match of the night, Decorah won four bouts. At 132 pounds, Kellan O'Shea picked up a 10-5 decision over Beau Vaske. Moving to 152 pounds, Holkesvik won 9-2 over Tim Tutton. Kephart took 5:06 to throw Jacob Teumer at 170 pounds. The final win came from McCabe, who threw Scott Taylor in 2:47.
