Following another successful season, the Decorah girls and boys cross country coaches were honored by the state.

Decorah High School Girls Cross Country coach Cristy Nimrod has been selected the 2013 Class 3A State Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year by the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association while boys coach Dennis Evelsizer has been selected a 2013 Class 3A Regional Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year.



About Nimrod

This is the third time and second year in a row Nimrod has earned this statewide honor after being named State Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2012 as well as District Coach of the Year in 2011.

Coach Nimrod has been the head girls cross country coach at Decorah High School for the past 12 years. During that time, she has led the Vikings to the state cross country meet 10 times, with regional titles the last eight years in a row and conference titles the last 10 years in a row. Under Coach Nimrod's guidance, the Vikings earned their third state title in 2013, with her first being in 2007, including runner-up finishes in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Coach Nimrod has also coached middle school girls track for the past 23 years.

Coach Nimrod is assisted by Sarah Nowack and will receive her award at the IATC Hall of Fame Banquet in Ames Saturday, Dec. 7th.



About Evelsizer

This is the third time Evelsizer has earned this honor after being named State Coach of the Year in 2012.

Coach Evelsizer has been the head boys cross country coach at Decorah High School for the past 12 years. During that time, he has led the Vikings to the state cross country meet 10 times, with conference and district titles six times. Under Coach Evelsizer's guidance the Vikings earned a third-place finish at the 2013 state meet after winning the 2012 Class 3A State Title and a runner-up finish in 2011. Coach Evelsizer has also served as a middle school boys track coach.

Coach Evelsizer is assisted by Brad Johanson and will receive his award at the IATC Hall of Fame Banquet in Ames Saturday, Dec. 7th.
