Area swimmers will have a new team to practice with.
Eric Crawford, a former Luther swimmer, has started the Decorah Swim Club, a year-round USA swimming team.
Who can participate
The Decorah Swim Club is open to anyone in the area who is interested in practicing and competing in a USA team setting. Anyone who can swim the length of the pool (25) yards without stopping or assistance is encouraged to join the team.
The club's goal is to "provide a positive learning environment for swimmers to grow, improve both physical and mental strength and enhance their technique in order to reach their potential and swimming. The Decorah Swim Club will provide an atmosphere that will promote growth, good sportsmanship, fun and hard work through the leadership of its coaches, family and community," according to the team handbook.
The swim team will be divided into age groups and abilities. The senior national group is age 14 and over, with swimmers meeting senior AA time standards. Senior is 12 and over, swimming a 50 freestyle and backstroke. The age group III is 8-13 years, with swimmers meeting meet Q time standards. Age group II is for swimmers 12 and under who can swim a 25 freestyle and backstroke. Age group I is for swimmers who can swim a 25-yard freestyle.
