In the final regular season meet of the year, the Decorah girls tennis team got several athletes on the courts Monday night at Oelwein.

In the end, the Vikes came out on the short end of the stick, falling 2-7.

The two victories came in the singles game. No. 1 Claire Breitenstein defeated Taylor Higgins 10-5. At the No. 2 spot, Laura Munkel knocked off Rachel Soll 10-4.

"I was very proud of Claire Breitenstein and Laura Munkel for the way they played their singles' matches. Both girls found out what worked early in their matches and stayed with it until their opponent forced them to change. Oelwein's number one and two players had defeated their Decorah opponents in an earlier match during the season," said Coach Larry Berland.

"We knew going in they were going to present a tough match up that would take a pro-active game plan to defeat. Claire and Laura dictated the type of game that was going to be played and would not allow either of their opponents to unleash their own."
