It will be a veteran group of players taking to the court this year for the Decorah boys basketball team.

The Vikings have nine seniors and 10 juniors all battling for time.

In charge of putting together the most productive lineup is Head Coach Jonathan Carlson. Carlson is taking over the program from David Brown, who resigned to take the position of athletic director at Spencer.

Back to last year

The Vikings of 2011-12 struggled to put together a long win streak. They finished 5-7 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, good for fifth overall.

In the first round of postseason district play, the Vikings were knocked out by New Hampton 72-59. They finished 9-13 overall.

As a team the Vikes shot 40.9 percent from the field and 59.1 percent from the free throw line. They averaged 51.8 points a game while allowing 54.2 points. They pulled down 25.6 rebounds a night while having 178 assists, 180 steals and 70 blocks.

The Vikings had just two seniors on the team - Nick Nelson (8.7 points per game, 2.0 rebounds, 44 total assists) and Jacob Humpal (1.5 points, 1.5 rebounds).
