Falling behind early proved too much for the Decorah boys basketball team (3-4, 0-3 NEIC) as the Vikings fell at league-leading New Hampton (7-0, 2-0 NEIC) 44-59.
Decorah kept the game close in the first quarter, trailing just 9-11 after the initial eight minutes. It was the second quarter where the Chickasaws blew away. Decorah scored just eight points in the frame while the Chickasaws put up 23, making it 17-34 at the halftime break.
The Vikings couldn't cut into the lead in the third, trailing 28-44 with eight minutes remaining.
The Vikings were led by Jacob Leeps with 11 points, including three three-pointers. Holt Johansen chipped in 10 points while Collin Nimrod added six.
The Vikes host Crestwood Friday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m. and are at North Fayette Valley Saturday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, they host Waverly-Shell Rock at 7:30 p.m.
