The Decorah girls golf team closed out the regular season Thursday at Oelwein.
On the par-36 course, the Viking varsity shot a 219 to defeat Oelwein’s 237.
With the win, Decorah has a 10-7 record.
Medalist honors went to Decorah’s Mary Murphy, who came through with a 52.
Alexa Lensing wasn’t far behind with a 55. Talia Raddatz and Ashley Gulrud both shot a 56. Melanie Gossman fashioned a 59 while Courtney Robinson carved out a 77.
Decorah played 10 linksters on the JV, but due to time and weather constraints, they only played 6-7 holes each.
“As far as weather goes, the cold, the wind and the rain make these the worst conditions I have ever had kids play in. Even so, we counted four scores in the low-to-mid 50s,” said Coach Scott Pierce. “Our JV girls all opted to play two more holes than they had to. I was really proud of how they tolerated the tough weather, and they will surely remember playing in this for years to come.”
The Vikings are off until the regional meet Tuesday, May 27, at Waverly. The top two teams out of 12 and top five individuals advance to the Class 4A state meet.
