The Turkey Valley volleyball team (19-13) came together for a great night on the courts Tuesday night in the first round of Class 1A regional play, defeating Riceville 3-0.

Game scores were 25-15, 25-11, 25-7. With the win, Turkey Valley advances to the second round to face Kee High Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Postville, beginning at 7 p.m. Kee moved on by knocking off Postville 3-0.

Riceville ends the season 3-17-1.



Tuesday night

"We played well tonight. The team meshed together and had a lot of enthusiasm. It was fun to see all three of our seniors on the floor at the same time and ending the match with a senior kill," said Coach Tammy Vrzak. "We look forward to the next round as we are playing well together."

Turkey Valley had 34 kills, 68 attack attempts, 33 assists, 29 digs, seven blocks and served 60-for-64 with seen aces. Kayla Schaufenbuel had 10 kills and 12 attack attempts to lead the team. Johanna Blazek made eight kills and 19 attack attempts, along with serving 10-for-11. Kennedy Balk served 13-for-13 with three kills. Arianna Rausch led the team with nine digs and had a 13-for-13 serving night. Ashley Kurash served 17-for-19 with two aces, along with 18 assists. Allison Kuennen made six kills.
