Minnesota men swept the competition at the annual Nordic Fest rock throw Saturday, July 27, at the Decorah Middle School.
Brett Ostby of Rochester, Minn., won the men's 50-pound division with a best throw of 34 feet, 3 inches. Second place went to John Olson of Decorah with a throw of 33 feet, 6 inches. In third place was Dan Burns of Decorah with a throw of 33 feet, 4 inches.
In the 75-pound division, Henry Jungbauer of St. Paul won the class in 35 feet, 4 inches. Tom Campbell of Minneapolis, Minn., took second with a toss of 32 feet, 8 inches. Third went to Todd Forbes of Noblesville, Ind., with a throw of 31 feet, 4 inches.
Nick Fitch of Kasson, Minn., won the 100-pound title with a throw of 46 feet, 1 inch. Dan Anderson of Marquette took second with a throw of 45 feet, 6 inches. Third went to Erick Sorenson of Rockford, Minn., with a throw of 44 feet, 7 inches.
The women's title went to Jamie Rugroden of Cresco with a throw of 26 feet, 11 inches. With a throw of 25 feet, 7 inches, Nanci Klocke of Hayfield, Minn., took second. Third went to Colleen Kannen of Preston, Minn., Her best throw was 25 feet, 3 inches.
Entries came from 11 states.
Elliott Christen was in charge of the event. He was assisted by Fred Brown, Smokey and Susan Doyle, Daryl Landas, Reg Laursen, Dave Luhman, Darryl Stoskopf, Jason Soland and Rik Trytten.
