The Decorah wrestling team had a fantastic showing at the Iowa City Bean City Duals Saturday.
The Vikings finished second overall with a 3-1 record on the day. Lisbon also was 3-1 but defeated Decorah in their dual.
Named all-tournament were Decorah's Cody Ritner, Alec Fjelstul and Austin Ashbacher; Cedar Rapids Xavier's Nick Drahozal and Sean Ickes; City High's Seth Schwarting; Keokuk's Dakota Shaw; Lisbon's Nick Williams, Chase McLaughlin, Carter Happell, Colten Smith, Jordan Woodward and Matt Montgomery.
In the first round Decorah knocked off Iowa City High 39-31. The Vikes took care of Keokuk 42-30 in the second round. The lone loss came against Lisbon, 48-30. They came back to defeat Cedar Rapids Xavier 37-36.
"We were very pleased to go 3- 1 on the day, considering we had to forfeit two weight classes due to sickness and injury," said Coach Jeff Freidhof. "Our all-tournament team members (Ritner, Fjelstul, Ashbacher) all wrestled aggressively and scored us very valuable bonus points. We are starting to come together as a team and wrestle more complete and sound matches."
