The season got off to a hot start Saturday as the Decorah boys tennis team brought home 17 medals from the West Waterloo Wahawk Tournament.
The event, which featured teams from Waterloo West, Columbus Catholic, Cedar Falls, Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids Kennedy, was one of the “best team performances in memory” for Head Coach Reg Laursen.
Decorah brought home five medals for first, six in doubles and six as a team. In team standings, Decorah was second overall. Cedar Falls was the team champion.
In singles play, No. 4 Brett LaRue, No. 5 T.J. Misseldine and No. 6 Karl Sand all claimed first, with No. 2 Ryan Hageman and No. 3 C.J. Cliff second and No. 1 Caleb Ulring fourth.
In doubles, No. 3 Misseldine/Sand were first while No. 1 Ulring/Cliff and No. 2 Hageman/LaRue were second.
