It wouldn't have been a 2013 track meet without adverse weather, and that was exactly what happened Thursday night in Decorah at the state qualifying meet.

However, even the steady rain couldn't stop the Decorah boys and girls track teams from having a solid meet, with both winning titles.
In total, 28 events will be heading to state for the Vikings, with 11 on the boys side and 17 for the girls.
The boys seized the state qualifying (formerly district) title for the third year in a row, securing 159 total points. Waverly-Shell Rock came in second with 142.
It was nine in a row for the girls team Thursday as they raced all the way to first with 201.5 points. The Go-Hawks again took the bridesmaid spot, this time with 149 points.
The state meet is Thursday through Saturday, May 16-18, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
In Class 3A, the top two place winners in each event at every state qualifying site automatically qualify for state. The next eight best times/distances through the state qualify as well, making 24 total entries in each event.
Decorah didn't find out the official qualifying list until Friday due to the weather postponing some meets. Most of the times for Decorah were done by hand timing because of the rain.
Looking for another title
The boys will have 11 entries trying to secure enough points to earn a second straight state title.
Individually, Patrick Larson qualified in the 3200 and 1600-meter runs for the third year in a row. He captured the district title in both events, taking first in the 3200-meters in 10:23.98 as well as the 1600-meters in 4:32.87. He is seeded 10th in the 1600 and 19th in the 3200. Last year he took 17th in the 1600 and fourth in the 3200 at state.
