Luther’s Miranda McCay and Amanda Dunn were recognized by the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this week.
McCay was named the female athlete of the week while Dunn was recognized in track and field.
McCay, a sophomore infielder on the Luther softball team, hit .481 (13-of-27) and slugged 1.074 with a double, five home runs, 15 RBIs and 11 runs scored as the Norse posted a 5-3 mark last week. The Waukee native hit a walk-off two-run home run in No. 8 Luther’s 8-6, 8-inning game one win over No. 9 Coe April 12, then had a pair of three-run home runs against St. Olaf April 13. In the doubleheader against the Oles, she finished 6-of-7 with three home runs, eight RBIs and five runs scored. She is the daughter of Keith and Brenda McCay.
Amanda Dunn, a senior from Spencer, won the hammer throw at the Luther Norse Relays with a school-record throw of 50.46 meters (165-7). Her mark ranks first in the Iowa Conference and eighth in Division III. Dunn also took second in the discus throw (42.46 meters; 139-4) with a mark that ranks third in the IIAC and 12th in Division III. She is the daughter of Kim and Ann Dunn.
