Lots of sports at Nordic Fest
Monday, July 15, 2013 6:44 AM
With less than two weeks until Nordic Fest, there's no better time to start preparing for the sporting events.
Because of the high waters and flooding this summer, there will be no Kanoløpet this season. However, it will return in 2014.
Saturday, July 27, there will be a full slate of sporting events.
The morning will start with the Elveløpet 5K run/walk or 15K run. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday near Decorah's City Hall. Registration forms may be dropped off at 507 W. Water St. until noon Friday, July 26. The cost is $30 by Friday, July 26, and $35 the day of the event.
The rock throw will be back Saturday afternoon. Participants can compete in various age, size and weight categories. The competition begins at 1 p.m. near the Decorah Middle School.
The Kubb tournament is back for the second year in a row. Kubb consists of teams of 2-6 players battling to knock down wood blocks. All kubb games will be played at the Decorah Middle School.
The championship bracket registration is 8-9 a.m., with the rules being announced at 9:15 a.m. and play to follow. There will be a break in the action from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for the rock thrown. The cost is $30 per team.
The "I was at the parade" double elimination tournament begins at 3 p.m. Play will start using some of the pitches from earlier in the tournament. Registration is from 2-3 p.m. At 3 will be a random draw for seeds. Games will be played in a best of one challenge or a 30-minute game.
