Decorah was represented by 14 area youth athletes at the State Hershey Track and Field Meet, held June 16 in Marshalltown.

They qualified for the meet at Decorah Parks and Recreation local Hershey Meet in May.

Winners were Kyle Renken, seventh in the 50-meter dash, eighth in the 100-meter dash; Matthew Franzen, seventh in the 400-meter dash; and Carston Baumler, eighth in the 200-meter dash.

Additional participants and events were Clara Rooney (standing long jump), Ashley Schneberger (softball throw, 50m, 100m), Payton Taylor (200m) Kayley Taylor (400m), Kyle Renken (standing long jump), Matthew Franzen (softball throw, 200m), Kaulin Bryce (standing long jump), Ryan Schneberger (softball throw), Carston Baumler (100m) Rye Hawley - Bourcier (400m), Aria Duncan (softball throw), Brooke Berns (100m, 400m), Felicity Taylor (200m) and Nils Holkesvik (800m).

The Hershey's Track & Field Games has been a national event and now a North American event since 1978. The Hershey Youth Program has grown from a local playground event in one community to one of the largest youth sports programs in North America. The program is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize sportsmanship.
