After pulling ahead in the second quarter, the Decorah boys basketball team (2-3, 0-2 NEIC) made a stand in the second half, defeating South Winn (4-3, 4-0 UIC) 66-56 Friday night in Decorah.
"We played with intensity and desire for most of the night," said Decorah Coach Jonathan Carlson. "We need to continue to improve, but it was a good team win."
The Warriors got on the board first when Trevor Schweinefus put up a shot. The game was tied when Jacob Leeps hit a three. Following two free throws, Leeps put Decorah ahead with another three. Leeps did it again to put the Vikes up 13-10 with three minutes remaining. After two free throws and a basket by Jordan Rommes, giving South Winn a 14-13 lead, Collin Nimrod hit a two to give Decorah a 15-14 lead after one.
