The season came to an all-too-fast conclusion for the Decorah girls soccer team Monday night as the Vikes lost to Class 2A No. 2 Pleasant Valley 5-1 in the regional final, held at Linn-Mar High School in Marion.

Pleasant Valley (14-5) moves on to the state tournament, starting today, Thursday, June 6, in Des Moines. Pleasant Valley faces Lewis Central (13-5) in the first round.

Decorah ended the year 7-10.

In Monday's regional final, the Vikings lone goal came from senior Abby Arend. Decorah had six shots, with Pleasant Valley making 30. Goalie Olivia Rauk had 15 saves.

"We just ran out of steam. There were a lot of factors that went into our loss and had any of them been different, we may have had a different result, but the bottom line is Pleasant Valley has a great program and they played better soccer than us on game day," said Coach Julie Shockey.
