Decorah boys swimmers who competed at the state meet ended the season with a bang Saturday in Marshalltown.

The team sent four events to the big meet, with all four improving on their times from districts.

Iowa City West won the team title with 205 points.

Wonderful day

Decorah had all three relays and one individual event swim at state. It was the first time since 2005 the Vikes have had three relays move on to Marshalltown.

The first event to compete was the 200-yard medley relay. Jerod Heying, Mac Faldet, Rjis Nesset and Cole Svestka comprised the relay. They were seeded 19th, with a district time of 1:42.56. The quartet cut 0.35 seconds off that time to finish 19th in 1:42.21. That is a school record time by 0.35 seconds. Iowa City West won the event in 1:35.94.

The 200 freestyle relay of Svestka, Isaac Sauer, Heying and Nolan Heffern also took to the water. Coming into the meet, the Vikings were seeded 15th with a time of 1:30.53. That quartet set a new school record by 0.5 seconds, taking 14th in 1:30.01. Iowa City West won the event in 1:25.46 seconds.
