Getting a chance to swim in the new Luther pool for the first time, the Decorah girls swim team came up just short against Mason City Thursday night.

The Vikes scored 88 points while Mason City posted 98 points.

In total, the Vikings had four events take first.

The 200-yard medley relay started the meet strong. Taylor Martinek, Maria Lea, Monica Tappe and Katie Hagensick clocked in at 2:02.28, winning by over two seconds each. K. Hagensick came back to win the 200-yard IM. Her time was 2:25.11, out-touching Mason City's Sam Kraft by nearly 1.5 seconds.

Michelle Halse picked up a diving gold. After six dives, she had 181.20 points, over 30 more than her next closest competitor.

Two-time state participant Taylor Martinek continued to dominate the competition in the 100-yard backstroke. The Crestwood High School student touched the wall in 1:05.58 to win the event Thursday.
