The Decorah girls golf team saw its season come to an end Tuesday at the Class 4A regional final, held in Waverly.
The Vikes finished sixth in team standings with 387 strokes. They were just one stroke out of fifth. Advancing to state were Cedar Rapids Xavier with a 332 and Charles City with a 348.
The top-five individuals moving on were Megan Joerger, Charles City, 77; Bailee Wallace, Waverly-Shell Rock, 77; Maddie Bertsch, Cedar Rapids Xavier, 77; Grace Winker, Cedar Rapids Xavier, 80; and Sarah Frischmeyer, Grinnell, 82.
Decorah scores were: Talia Raddatz (44-47=91); Melanie Gossman (47-51=98); Mary Murphy (47-52=99); Alexa Lensing (48-51=99); Courtney Robinson (54-56=110); and Ashley Gulrud (55-58=113).
“We finished the season on a very high note. It was our best score of the year, and we finished with a 16-12 record after a 2-30 record a season ago,” said Coach Scott Pierce. “All six gals who played varsity return next season as well as a number of JV players who got some nice experience this year. I was very pleased with how well the girls played against some very good competition. We are already looking forward to next year.”
