There's no doubt the 2012 South Winn football team has talent; it's a matter of how that talent comes together on the field that will make or break the season.
South Winn skill player returning letter winners are, from left, front row - Garrett Bohach, Isaac Taylor, Ryan Hageman, Eric Albertson. Back row - Jordan Rommes, Alex Walz, Colton Hageman, Adam Lensing.
The Warriors have four returning all-district players, eight returning letter winners and a desire to make a run through the district schedule and into the playoffs.
Leading the way is Head Coach Jason Ohrt. Heading into his sixth season, Ohrt has compiled a 31-22 overall record. Assisting him on the sidelines will be Steve Hoffert, Loren Straube, Chad Poshusta and Joel Hageman.
School record 2011
The Warriors put together one of the best seasons in recent school history last year. From the first game, the Warriors set the tone of the year, defeating rival Turkey Valley 31-24. After holding off non-district Waukon, the Warriors rattled off six straight district victories, highlighted by a 20-17 victory over North Fayette, a team they hadn't defeated in eight years. In the final game of the regular season they lost to Dyersville Beckman to finish 8-1 and tie for first in Class 2A District 4.
The Warriors were paired against New Hampton in the first round of the playoffs. SW survived a last minute flurry to win 12-6, its first Class 2A postseason victory in school history. The magical ride ended a week later with a 41-6 loss to Beckman.
