Michelle Halse will be diving on the big stage.
Halse qualified for the state diving competition, held Friday, Nov. 8, in Marshalltown, with the competition at 5 p.m., based on her point total at the regional swim meet in Cedar Falls last weekend.
Halse is the only Viking to advance to state. It will be the junior's first trip to state.
The two-day regional competition was Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, in Cedar Falls. Decorah finished fifth in team standings with 208 points. Cedar Falls was the champion with 515 points.
Halse and the rest of the divers competed Thursday night in Cedar Falls. Competing against 13 divers, Halse finished seventh overall with 319.05 points. Hannah Brummell of Cedar Falls took first with 450.75 points.
Although Halse finished near the middle of the pack, it was a tough regional. Her score stacked up against the rest of the state as she finished in the top-30.
Also in the diving competition, Ruth Vermace finished 13th with 251.25 points.
