The season came to an end for the Turkey Valley boys golf team Friday at the sectional meet at Backbone Golf Course near Starmont.
The Trojans finished sixth in team standings with 367 strokes. Tripoli won the meet with 334 strokes. Starmont was a close second with 337.
Jason Lowry of Starmont was the individual champion with an 80. Hud Johnston of West Central was the runner-up with an 81. Tying for third were Ian Goedken of Starmont, Austin Newbrough of Tripoli and Carew Vogt of Tripoli, all with 82s.
The Trojans were led by Jacob Hackman, who shot a 42 on the front nine and 41 on the back for an 83. He earned sixth overall. Tom Reicks wasn’t far behind with an 88 (45-43). Justin Izer came through with a 97 (52-45) while Ryan Busta had a 99 (46-53). Also competing were Riley Meirick (53-49) 102 and Riley Busta (56-54) 110.
“I was happy to see senior captain Jacob Hackman close out his career with an outstanding round,” said Coach John Reicks. “He caught an unlucky break down the stretch when his solid chip from the fringe on hole No. 7 hit a sprinkler head and he took a bogey, and he finished one stroke behind the district qualifiers.
“I am really going to miss our seniors. They are a good group of young men and made the season competitive and enjoyable. Once again, Mother Nature was our toughest opponent as we lost six meets due to weather.”
