With just 14 wrestlers on the roster, the South Winn wrestling team will need every grappler to step up this winter.

The Warriors do boast experience, with seven returning letter winners, including one state place winner from a year ago.
Leading the way is Head Coach Jake Elsbernd. Entering his third season, Elsbernd has an 18-30 career record, coaching five state qualifiers and one state champion. He will be assisted by Jason Schmelzer, Ethan Adams and Kenny Mikota.
With over 20 wrestlers on the squad last year, Elsbernd had just four returning letter winners but a lot of grapplers with determination.
The Warriors posted a 9-16 dual record, working all season to find the right wrestlers for the correct weights. At the Upper Iowa Conference meet in January, the Warriors finished fifth overall, with senior Colton Hageman and junior Chris Brincks earning first place.
Moving to the sectional tournament, the Warriors took sixth overall, with Hageman and Brincks the only two to advance to districts. Brincks took first at the district meet while Hageman earned second to seal a spot at state. On the big stage, Brincks took fifth overall at 195 pounds while Hageman grabbed one victory at 170.
