The sophomore duo of Josine Gossling and Ryan Izer represented the Turkey Valley cross country team well Saturday at the Class 1A state cross country meet Saturday in Fort Dodge.

The pair, both first time participants to the state meet, did their coach proud.

Gossling set a season best by taking 33rd out of 127 participants in 15:56. It was also a career best time.

"We were all very proud of Josine and how well she represented our program," said Coach Timothy Kruckman. "Sometimes athletes lose focus when he or she is the only individual representing a team. Without a team score, sometimes purpose is blurred. Josine remained true to our program and how she has competed for us all season long."

Izer, who only ran cross country the last month due to football commitments, finished 47th out of 131 runners in 17:35, also a season best.

"For this being his first state meet, Ryan Izer did a good job of holding back at the start and wisely moving ahead in the second and third mile," said Kruckman. "He had a great race for the amount of distance training he has had this season. He has a tremendous amount of talent.
