The Decorah boys swim team had a busy two-day stretch, swimming in a triangular Thursday and hosting Vinton-Shellsburg Friday.


Thursday the Decorah swim team competed in a triangular against Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Waterloo East in Waterloo.

The varsity defeated Waterloo East 117-31 while falling to Cedar Rapids Kennedy 102-65.

The 200-yard medley relay team got things off to a great start. The combination of Nolan Heffern, Kody Miller, Mac Faldet and Dalton Matt finished first in 1:56.15, the only team sub-two minutes.

Heffern took the silver medal in the 500-yard freestyle. He touched the wall in 5:50.31, just 0.10 seconds from first. Heffern also took second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.08.

The 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Cole Svestka, Jerod Heying, J.D. Prentice and Faldet touched second in 1:40.75. They were five seconds from first. The 400-yard freestyle relay also took second. Heffern, Heying, Matt and Faldet combined to finish in 3:49.82, six seconds from first.

Miller finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke. He completed the event in 1:17.18.

Taking third were the 200 medley relay team of Heying, Zach Lea, Trevor Malven and Svestka (2:01.77); Will Yahr in the 200 freestyle (2:20.31); Faldet in the 200 IM (2:28.33); Svestka in the 50 free (25.13); Malven in the 100 fly (1:11.25); Steven Holkesvik in the 100 free (1:04.23); Heying in the 100 backstroke (1:07.73); Lea in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.96).
