The Decorah girls tennis team opened the season Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougar Tournament.
It was only the third time all year the girls have been able to get on the court, as Thursday’s meet with Dubuque Wahlert was moved to Thursday, April 10, in Wahlert.
“Compound the lousy weather with losing nine of your top 10 girls from last year’s team with the fact you are facing top-notch Class 2A tennis, you have a trifecta for trouble,” said Coach Larry Berland. “To say we were overmatched would be the understatement of the season so far.
“Our inexperienced players have to understand losing can be a stepping stone to winning when it counts. In the past, our teams have always been able to get back up when knocked down. I expect the same from this team’s players no matter what happened in their last match,” said Berland.
