The Decorah girls soccer team battled hard Tuesday night in the first game of the season.
Despite not getting much practice time outside before the game, new Head Coach Kyrie Jorgenson was proud of her team’s efforts in the 9-0 loss at Waverly-Shell Rock.
The Go-Hawks scored five goals in the first half and four in the second.
Decorah goalkeeper Olivia Rauk made 18 saves.
Decorah had seven shots on goal. Stef Bjerke had two of those shots. Also with shots were Lauren Bruneau, Jen Jenkins, Laura Scholz, Lindsay Smith and Emily Miller.
“Even though we only had a few outdoor practices, our girls showed dedication and team cohesion toward the end of the game. We know what we need to work on and fix in the upcoming games,” said Jorgenson.
In the JV game, the Vikings lost 2-1. The loan goal was scored by Isabel Iverson, assisted by Abby Hudson at 24:40. Waverly-Shell Rock scored both its goals in the first half. Goalkeeper Emily Womeldorf made six saves.

The Vikings are at Dubuque Senior Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, the Vikes host Iowa City Regina at 4:30 p.m.
