In a busy three-game set, the Decorah baseball team (17-8, 11-5 NEIC) split in non-conference games, then went 1-of-2 against the NEIC leaders.
Wednesday the Vikings hosted North Fayette (14-14) in a non-conference game, with Decorah winning 11-1 in five innings.
The Vikes put up a run in the first, then three in the third. After North Fayette scratched a run across in the top of the fourth, Decorah scored five runs in the fourth. The inning started with a two-run Dustin Cary home run. The Vikes then used a walk, a hit batter and four hits to produce three more runs. The Vikes ended the game early with two runs in the fifth.
Decorah had 14 hits. James Ostlie had three singles, a run scored and two RBIs. Kyle Kane had three hits, including a double, with a run scored and two RBIs. Cary had a single to go with his home run, scored twice and had two RBIs. Josey Jewell had two hits, including a double, with two runs scored and three RBIs while Jacob Kvale had two hits and scored twice.
Cary was the winning pitcher. He allowed one unearned run on one hit.
"We had five guys with multiple hits, and right up and down the order we had good offensive production," said Coach Dennis Olejniczak. "Cary didn't pitch a bad game, but he wasn't sharp either. It wasn't that he was totally in command, but anytime you give up only one hit and only walk two, it's going to be a pretty effective pitching performance."
