It was a heck of a finish Saturday for the Decorah girls track team.
The girls finished fourth in Class 3A with 49 points, their best finish since 2012. Davenport Assumption was the team champion with 107 points. Mount Pleasant ran into second with 77 points while Dubuque Wahlert held on for third with 68 points.
The day was highlighted by the spectacular finish in the sprint medley relay. Monica Tappe, Alexis Hove, Dailen Folkedahl and Taylor Schuring blazed into first in 1:48.46, just edging Boone with a time of 1:48.84. Schuring brought the team back from third place in the final stretch to bring home the gold medal.
That wasn't the only highlight from the day. Sophomore Olivia Sandvig took the track in the 100-meter hurdles. She had a blazing time of 15.43 seconds to finish fourth.
The 4x400 relay scored four points for the team. Folkedahl, Kalle Solberg, Tess Olinger and Schuring took fifth in 4:01.93. The 4x100 had a great finish. Taking sixth were Folkedahl, Olinger, Tappe and Hove in 50.66 seconds.
Amanda Taylor competed in the mile run. The junior had a great time of 4:52.42 to finish eighth.
The shuttle hurdle relay brought fans to their feet. Sandvig, Linnea Kephart, Kylie Kerndt and Shaylan Martin placed seventh in 1:08.05.
Katie Perez had a good showing in the 800-meter run. She took 21st in 2:26.46.
