Hoping to move back above .500 in conference play, the Decorah boys basketball team (6-4, 4-3 NEIC) did just that, winning 65-50 at home against Charles City.
"We didn't have the start to the game we wanted, but we made some adjustments at halftime and had a good second half," said Coach Jonathan Carlson.
The Vikes started the game with strong defense, limiting the Comets to three points for much of the first quarter. When the first buzzer sounded, Decorah held a 13-12 lead. In the second frame, it was back and forth, with neither team posting much of an advantage. Decorah led 18-17 midway through before the Comets came back to take a 26-23 lead with a minute to go. Decorah responded, scoring four points in the final minute. At the half, the Vikes trailed 27-28.
Decorah came out of the locker room ready to play, going ahead 38-31 in the first four minutes. The lead was extended to 10 at the break, 50-40. The Comets never posted a serious threat in the final quarter as Decorah sailed.
