First of the year; SW harriers get feet wet at Charles City
Tuesday, September 10, 2013 3:01 AM
The South Winn harriers got on the course for the first time Thursday as the boys and girls cross country teams competed at Charles City.
No team scores were kept as the meet was divided by grades and not by a varsity and JV squad. Instead, juniors and seniors ran together and freshmen and sophomores together. Awards were given to the top-20.
The junior and senior girls had five runners place in the top-10 and six in the top-20. Leading the way was Monica Schwartzhoff, who posted a time of 17:47 to take fourth. In fifth was Kennidee DeVilbiss, who had a time of 18:05. Jessica Lechtenberg was right behind her, taking sixth in 18:10.
Alexis Patterson toured the course in 18:57 to finish eighth. Ninth was Kelly Kuboushek in 18:58. Rounding out the top-20 crew was Abby Phillips. She finished 17th in 20:05.
