Earning a trophy; South Winn girls seventh at state

It was a great finish to the season for the South Winn girls golf team.

The Warriors, led by their four seniors, finished seventh in Class 2A at the state golf meet.
The tournament was held at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown Monday and Tuesday.
The Warriors shot a 386 the first day and a 384 the second for a 770. Dike-New Hartford was the team champion, firing a 348 the first day and a 342 the second for a 690.
Junior Sarah McMichael of Nashua-Plainfield was the individual champion. She fired a 75 the first day and a 77 the second for an overall of a 152. Ashley Dumler of Dike-New Hartford was the runner-up with a 154 (75-79).
South Winn was led by senior Megan Hageman. She carded an 88 Monday and a 93 Tuesday for a 181, tying for 15th.
Megan Bushman, another senior, came through with a 192 (94-98), tying for 26th.
The next three Warriors finished right in a row. Senior Megan Elsbernd and freshman Skyler Luzum tied for 35th. Elsbernd toured the course in a 99 Monday and a 102 Tuesday for a total of 201. Luzum fashioned a 105 to start the tournament and a 96 to conclude it for a 201.
Earning 37th was Caitlin Holien. Holien started state with a 105. She concluded the tournament with a 97 to finish with a 202.
Rounding out the team score was Jaimie Elsbernd. The sophomore fire a 246 (125-121) to finish 52nd.
