With one day remaining, the Decorah girls track team is in fifth place in Class 3A.
The Vikings have scored 24 points. Davenport Assumption is in first with 49 points. Mount Pleasant is in second with 44. Dubuque Wahlert has scored 39 while MOC-Floyd Valley had 26 points to sit in fourth.
Decorah had several great performances Friday. In the shot put, junior Kassie Hoyme had a best throw of 40 feet, 5.25 inches, good for fifth overall. Teammate Jenna Iverson placed with a put of 35 feet, 0.25 inches.
The girls 4x200 also posted points for the Vikes. Kalle Solberg, Alexis Hove, Tess Olinger and Dailen Folkedahl came home in 1:44.54, good for fifth.
Three events advanced to Saturday's finals. Olivia Sandvig had the fourth-best time in the 100-meter hurdles. She clocked in at 15.52 seconds, winning the second heat.
The 4x100 of Dailen Folkedahl, Tess Olinger, Monica Tappe and Alexis Hove came in seventh overall in 50.59 seconds, advancing to the finals. The 4x400 of Dailen Folkedahl, Tess Olinger, Kaitlyn Kregel and Taylor Schuring also finished seventh. Their time was 4:02.96. It is good enough to move on to the finals.
Linnea Kephart and Payton Hjerleid both competed in the 400-meter hurdles. Kephart had a time of 1:08.40, placing 11th. Hjerleid came in 21st in 1:12.46.
Sandvig just missed the finals of the long jump. She was ninth in 16 feet, 2.25 inches.
Decorah has seven events competing in Saturday's finals.
