After the first day of competition, the Decorah boys track team is tied for third with 12 points at the state track meet, held in Des Moines.

The Vikes trail Boone with 19.5 points and Fort Madison with 17 points.

In late Thursday action, Kassie Hoyme earned 17th in the discus with a throw of 105-5. Senior Jacob Drost tied for 10th in the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 2 inches.

The Decorah boys 4x800 relay of Gavin Nimrod, Hans Holkesvik, Alex Bishop and Kyle Hosting finished seventh in 8:11.75.

Decorah's Dailen Folkedahl finished 10th in the 200-meter dash in 26.62, just missing advancing to the finals.

Kaitlyn Kregel earned 20th in the 400-meter run in 1:02.26.

In the final event of the night, the shuttle hurdle relay team of Molly Wettach, Olivia Sandvig, Linnea Kephart and Tori Hartman finished 12th in the prelims in 1:09.16.

In the field, senior Josey Jewell earned fourth in the discus with a best throw of 162 feet, 3 inches.

South Winn's 4x800 boys relay of Garrett Bohach, Devin Franzen, Nathan Meyer and Alex Stammeyer finished 11th in 8:20.27.

SW junior Kennidee DeVilbiss earned 20th in the 400-meter run in 1:02.80.
