The Class 3A No. 1 Decorah boys and girls cross country teams crossed one hurdle Tuesday on the way to a state championship, with both capturing the Northeast Iowa Conference titles.

For the girls, it's the ninth year in a row they've stood atop the podium. The boys seized their sixth straight title.

In total, the girls have won 13 conference titles in school history while the boys have won 18.

Perfect night

The girls team ran a nearly perfect race, with all seven runners finishing in the top-eight places.

In total, the Vikes scored 15 points to win the meet. Crestwood came in second with 57 points while Class 3A No. 11 Charles City was third with 60 points.

All seven varsity runners earned Northeast Iowa Conference honors by finishing in the top 15.

"Our kids ran tough tonight," said Coach Cristy Nimrod. "I was proud of our effort throughout the entire team."
