For the second year in a row, it was the Warriors celebrating a victory over long-time rival North Fayette Friday night as the Class 1A No. 5 South Winn football team improved to 6-0 and 4-0 in the district after defeating the Hawks 42-29 at home.

The Warriors took an early lead then held on in the back and forth battle.

Balanced attack

The Warriors struck first in the first quarter. On the fifth play of the first drive, Colton Hageman raced 54 yards for the end zone. Jared Schroeder kept the two-point play to put the Warriors up 8-0.

The Warriors danced into the end zone again on the third play of the second quarter. This time Hageman went 2 yards for the score. The two-point try failed, making it 14-0.

The Hawks answered, returning the kickoff 63 yards before being tackled. On the next play, they went 3 yards into the end zone for the score to make it 14-7.

South Winn then went to the ground, sucking nine minutes off the block before C. Hageman went in for the 1-yard plunge. After the two-point play failed, SW went into halftime up 20-7.
